When A Quote Becomes A Work of Art

I came across a quote that was attributed to Winston Churchill, but, unfortunately, as it turns out, there is no evidence to firmly show he actually said it.

Nonetheless, it’s a brilliant quote. So, unknown it is.

The quote is as follows:

“When you’re 20 you care what everyone thinks. When you’re 40 you stop caring what everyone thinks. When you’re 60 you realize no one was ever thinking about you in the first place.”

-unknown

What I love about this quote is how well it illustrates that the quality of our lives is dependent on our perception.

Working through this concept led to my painting “What Are You Looking at”.

The question being asked is whether the crowd is hovering over and staring down and scrutinizing the masked figure  on the right, or is the crowd leaning back looking up at something in the sky?
