So Where do We Go From Here?

As we head into the final days of any year, it always inspires a time of reflection – 2020 even more so than any other year.

It’s been a while since I’ve posted – it’s been a period of painting (as always), introspection and just plain survival.

I’ve been spending a lot of time hiking, spending time in nature. It’s helped put perspective on all of this. As you pass trees that are many years old, rivers that have never stopped flowing – you realize this is a point in time. Pulling from a very old book – “… and this too shall pass”. *

As I move into 2021, my focus will be on the end of the pandemic and the new normal that will come after. My intention is to take my art further and extend what’s on the canvas to inspire and influence, with an aim of acting as a catalyst for conversation and change.

And with that … my last painting that I will post for 2020. The title of this work is Gratitude. It is a reflection of my reflections while hiking. The layers are composed of organic shapes, branches and roots. As you hike, the natural tendency is to look up or forward, rarely down. As the sun beat down through the trees, it left a fantastic pattern on the ground that I incorporated into one layer.

As tough as this year has been, I have a lot to be grateful for.

Happy New Years! – Le Clem
